Korogwe
Our training continued about 6 hours north of Dar in a town called Korogwe. Here we spend most days in Swahili class or teaching and observing lessons at a local secondary school. This is the road and mountain view near my school.
The view from inside my trusty mosquito net!
And a beautiful sunset near my host family's house.
This is my first kitenge dress! Kitenge is a type of fabric available across Tanzania in all kinds of patterns. I successfully haggled for the fabric then took it to a fundi (tailor) and ordered the dress in Swahili! My host sister, Rudhia, was excited to take a picture together when my dress was finally finished!
This adorable letter was from one of my secondary school students welcoming me to Tanzania.
I didn't expect to see Guinness here, but it was nice to have a little taste of Ireland!
This is a photo of the infamous ugali being made! Ugali is a sort of corn flour porridge that is ubiquitous with Tanzania. It's usually eaten with some sort of veggie or meat sauce and ALWAYS with your hands. My host family made sure to teach me how to make ugali, so I'll be able to survive here on my own.
This is an absurdly large grasshopper on my bedroom door. 😱 You can't really tell from the photo, but it's at least 6 inches long!
And a beautiful view along the road to Leshoto town.
The next few photos are from a hike up Mashinde mountain. The hike took all day and was super beautiful. For the last few hours, we were accompanied by some kids from a village near the top. They ran (literally) up the near vertical climb in flip flops and completely ignoring the trails! I genuinely thought someone was going to fall off, but we all made up and down without any serious falls!
The photo of the rainbow and the amazing clouds is just stunning. - Diana
