Goodbye Korogwe

It's a bittersweet moment, as the end of Pre-Service Training approaches and I get ready to officially swear in as a Peace Corps volunteer. I've met some wonderful people who welcomed me and supported me in these first few months. Chief among them, my lovely host family! They've shown me nothing but kindness since the very first day, and I'll be forever grateful. To baba Sadiki and mama Maryum for opening your home and your heart to me. To my dadas and kakas Rudhia, Sofia, Fatuma, Salum, Hilati (and everyone else who visited) for your eternal patience and humor as I slowly learned more than four words in Swahili. It took us about fifty tries to get a decent family photo, so here it is!

Also a big thank you and goodbye to my CBT group and our internship school. We've been together through a lot of swahili struggles, awkward cultural questions, and a student possession or two. It wouldn't have been the same without you all!

I'm including this picture with Ariel's puppy after his bath, because I don't think I'll be seeing many dogs on Pemba. So see you later, puppies!

And here are some pictures from swear-in day. Of my host mama presenting me with a graduation present.

And the best Swahili teachers a girl could ask for! A goodbye to PST wouldn't be complete without Majid and Cece, who quite literally taught me everything I know about Swahili.

  1. Ah, that family photo is pretty cute. I guess 50times is the charm.
