Site Announcements: Pemba!
After much anticipation, we finally got our site announcements and I'm headed to Pemba, the smaller island in Zanzibar. Our class only has three volunteers heading to the islands, so I'll be joined by Caitlyn and Caitlin.
This week we visited our future sites for the first time! Pemba is just of the coast from Tanga, so it didn't take us long to travel there. (Pole sana to our friends heading on 20+ hour bus rides!) We packed our bags full of books to leave at site, donned our new headscarves, and got on a teeny tiny plane with about ten other passengers. This is Cait just after we touched down, and you can see the pilot just behind her left shoulder.
Our first view of Pemba!
And here is my new home! Complete with electricity, a flush toilet, a rain shower...
... and a beautiful view of the sunset! Each evening hundreds of huge fruit bats, or "Pemba Flying Foxes" take off for the evening and fly past my house.
